Semi Permanent Individual Lash Extensions FAQ

Semi permanent eyelash extensions are the latest beauty craze to take the world by storm! Lash extensions draws more attention to your eyes than mascara alone, yet looks more natural than false strip lashes. Now you can have gorgeous luscious lashes 24 hours a day, when you wake, on the beach, in the office...without ever having to worry about retouching.

Eyelash extensions are individual strands of synthetic lashes that are curved to replicate your natural lashes. This differs from cluster lashes where 3 or 4 strands of lashes fan out from a "bulb" at the bottom. Cluster lashes are often heavy and difficult to blend in with your natural lashes, giving a very unnatural look. The prices charged for cluster lashes in salons are often much cheaper than individual eyelash extensions, however the quality and finish and longevity are often substandard and speaks for itself.

Eyelash extensions when looked after properly should last 4 to 6 weeks. Over time you will shed your extensions as you lose your natural lashes, and through every day wear and tear. Your eyelash extensions will become sparse over time, and in-fills are required to replace the extensions that have fallen off.
Please note, eyelash extensions are incredibly delicate and care must be exercised to avoid your extensions falling out prematurely. Exposure to steam, very hot temperatures or water, touching, picking, or rubbing your lashes can weaken the adhesive bond on your extensions and cause them to fall off.

No it is extremely relaxing with most clients falling asleep while having the lashes applied. No, the proper application of eyelash extensions does not hurt, the treatment is extremely relaxing with most clients falling asleep while having the eyelashes applied. The extensions are attached to your natural lashes and not the skin and therefore clients do not feel a thing. Clients are required to lay back on the beauty couch with their eyes closed whilst the procedure is carried out.

The application of eyelash extensions is a meticulous process that requires concentration and precision. Depending on the set chosen and your natural lashes please refer to the treatment menu for an indication of time.

If you choose to upkeep your lashes and maintain the look of your eyelash extensions, regular touch ups are recommended to keep them looking full and luscious. This varies from person to person, depending on how well you look after your extensions, your natural lash cycle, and the initial set chosen. Typically, clients get touch-ups every 2 to 4 weeks. Alternatively some clients prefer a fresh new set of extensions, you can allow for them to all fall out and have a new set applied each time.

Eyelash extensions should look and feel like your natural lashes, and to the untrained eye no one can tell they are not your natural lashes. You should not feel any pain or discomfort in or around your eyes after the procedure. Lashes should be clean and well separated with no clumping or lumps of adhesive visible. We have carried out numerous remedial work on clients who have had dangerous and poorly applied eyelash extensions elsewhere where the client has experienced clumping, pain, discomfort, or damage to their own natural lashes – this is not normal!

Yes, we can remove the lashes - it takes about 30 minutes.  This will cost £20 or free if you are having another set applied.

No, because we are specialists, properly applied eyelash extensions by an experienced qualified lash stylist should not damage your natural lashes. We use only the correct amount of glue and place them near the eyelash root. It is important that lashes are glued 1 – 2 millimetres away from the root. This ensures a healthy eyelash will continue to grow and the skin on the eyelid is kept clean.
Clients should not experience pain to their eyelids or premature shedding of their natural lashes. Lash extensions may be removed with professional lash remover and once the extensions are taken off your natural lashes should remain intact and in its normal condition.
There have been numerous reports in the press that eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes. These reports relate to inexperienced and/or unqualified practitioners, of which there are many about! Ideally find a practitioner through recommendation, or ask to see their qualifications and portfolio (ensure they are genuine photos and not stock photos).

Come to your appointment with clean lashes; do not have them permed for 6 weeks prior to appointment your appointment and do not perm them after. Lashes must be clean and free of mascara and make up. Spend extra time washing your lashes the night before your appointment. Please remove all traces of eye makeup thoroughly and ensure your eyelashes are squeaky clean prior to the procedure. Use an oil free make up remover if possible, and rinse afterwards with plenty of clean water. Any traces of oil or makeup (especially mascara!) will create a barrier between the adhesive and your natural lashes, causing your extensions to drop off prematurely.

This depends on how many natural lashes you have on each eye. Generally, anywhere from 50 to 100+ lashes on each eye.

In the majority of cases, most clients' lashes are good candidates for lash extensions. However, there may be limitations to the type of look achievable if your natural lashes are particularly sparse, fine or curly. For example, a healthy strong straight host lash is needed in order to attach the extension properly and lashes that have severe bends may not be viable for extensions.

Yes we can, and call us immediately so we can remove your old extensions! We've rectified the work from other salons many times, where often the client is in immense pain or discomfort from the improper application of lash extensions. We will remove your existing lash extensions, and if you wish, apply a new set.

They may appear shorter because you have become accustomed to looking at longer lashes. After a week they will appear as they were prior to extensions.

Yes, after the first 12-24 hours of having them applied. Please refer to your aftercare leaflet for detailed instructions.

Simply brush every morning avoid pulling the lashes through from the root. Gently brush the lashes from halfway down (your therapist will demonstrate this for you). Avoid using oil base make up remover as this will dissolve the glue and the lashes will fall out quickly.

No, avoid putting towels near your lashes as they can catch and pull out lashes.

This is usually because that is the side of the face you sleep on and during the night the lashes can rub on pillows or blankets.

Use either a foaming cleanser or a non-oil based cleanser. Be extremely gentle when cleansing your lashes use a downward motion on the lashes do not cleanse sideways as this will tangle the lashes. Also ensure that the products contain no alcohol, glycol, or oils as this will break down the bond of the glue.

Yes you cannot rub your eyes in a rough manner as you run the risk of pulling out the extensions and your natural lashes.

No, except on your bottom lashes.

Maybe, we do have sensitive glues, however, we ask that you make an appointment to carry out a test patch for the glue. If there is no reaction then you can make an appointment.

This usually means you have had a sudden reaction to the glue. Take an antihistamine tablet and if your eyes have not settled down in the next 8 hours call and have them removed. If problem persists seek medical attention.

Sometimes, for no apparent reason our body can react suddenly to the glue. There can be several reasons; new medication, seasonal changes in weather and allergies. Take antihistamines as soon as you get the reaction and make an appointment to have the lashes removed. If the problem persists seek medical attention.

No not for at least 6 weeks prior to eyelash extension being applied. The Lashes have a natural curl to them so there is no need to have them permed.

No some clients have had their extensions on for over 4 years. As long as you take care of your lashes and do not play or pull them out.

Women lose hair from the head working down the body. The hair follicle becomes weaker, the eyelashes become brittle and break. Generally loss of eyelashes is caused by ageing and the main reasons are due to hormonal changes occurring during and after menopause or diet and stress.

The longevity of your extensions depends on a number of factors, such as wear and tear, lifestyle, your own natural lashes, skin type, etc. As your extensions get older, it will get sparse over time as you shed them and the shed rate is very much dependent on the above factors. Another contributing factor is the glue used during the application process. The stronger the glue, the stronger the bond, and the longer your extensions will last. The downside to strong glues is the increase in client adverse reactions. Strong glues have strong vapours which can cause severe tearing, itching, stinging, swelling of the eyes, and allergic reactions. As such, we do not use these glues and do not recommend anyone seeking out eyelash extensions to have extensions applied with these glues.

To ensure your eyelash extensions continue looking gorgeous and sumptuous for as long as possible, follow the aftercare tips below: 1. Avoid contact with water or steam for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure to allow the glue to cure (the longer the better). If you must shower, wash your face etc. clean around your eyes and avoid getting water onto your lashes.
2. Avoid exposing your lashes to prolonged heat as it can weaken the bond and cause your extensions to fall off (that includes steam rooms, saunas and bikram yoga!)
3. Do not run a lash wand or brush through your extensions. If they are looking a little unruly, separate and tidy your lashes using a toothpick, ideally after a shower.
4. Avoid using oil based products around your eyes. Your therapist will give you a full aftercare leaflet please refer to this as well.
